10 Reasons To Love BBC’s Sherlock

Although I was a little late to check out Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ Sherlock, it didn’t take much time for me to become part of the show’s worldwide fandom. When I decided to check out the first episode on Netflix a few years back, I remember being struck with the visuals in the first episode, “A Study in Pink” (A riff off the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story “A Study in Scarlet”). Four series later, I am so glad that I did. It has made me anxious during episodes, but it has also given me so much joy and laughter. Here are ten reasons to love the Moffat-Gatiss brainchild*:

Top Ten TV Characters I Loathe

tvcharactersIloathe

Last week we said goodbye to my favorite NCIS character: Abby Sciuto. I was really bummed when I first heard that she was going to be leaving the show after playing such an integral role in it for 15 years. I’ve honestly struggled to understand how the show could feasibly continue without her, especially after the team has seen so much loss in one way or another, in recent years (Ziva and DiNozzo being the most poignant departures). But alas, the show must go on…

I often think about the television characters that I love. The ones that make me laugh, or cry, or whom I just feel some sort of connection to. It’s easy to think about all the characters who are such an important part of the team, and it can be difficult to picture a show without certain characters. This might be an unpopular opinion, but while I wasn’t a huge fan of Derek Shepard (sorry!), it was still really hard for me to envision the show without him. Some shows continue along after the loss of significant characters, and others don’t. I know that many still aren’t over losing Derek. I get it, even if I don’t feel the same sentiment towards his highness. 😉

But today, I’m not looking to talk about my favorite characters or the ones who have had a strong impact on myself, or the program in which they exist. Today, I want to talk about the characters I loathe. The ones that make me cringe – who, no matter how many times I’ve seen a particular episode, still irritate the piss outta me. Read More »

The Sims 4 SEASONS Announcement + Trailer

Sims4Seasons1

Sul Sul!

If you’re a Sims 4 fan like we are, chances are that you’re pretty excited for the announcement of a Seasons expansion pack. We’ve been Sims fans for the past EIGHTEEN years. Yeah, I realize that sounds pretty crazy, but it’s true; We’ve been here since the beginning! The game has definitely come a long way over the years, and we’ve been here for all of it. It’s hard to pick a favorite version of the game after playing it for so many years, but I think personally, for me, it’s The Sims 4 (Missy says that 3 is her favorite, but she hopes that 4 will eventually surpass it). But the thing that we yearn for the most has easily been seasons. The ironic thing, is that living in Western New York, I honestly don’t even like winter anymore, but dammit, I’d like to at least have the option in-game. It doesn’t feel realistic to live in a world with no weather or seasonal changes (yes, I realize that The Sims is a game, but it’s a game with a heavy dose of realism, so we need realistic details, like seasons)!

When we saw the teaser trailer for a new expansion pack, we instantly thought seasons. I mean, why else would there be a scarecrow?!? Also, the trees – there is color in the foliage! Not to mention, the dude is wearing a scarf, though, to be fair, he looks a little hipster-y so that might not be a clue at all. 😉 We’ve been anxiously waiting for this new trailer to pop up online and now it finally has!

SIMS4seasons2

Thanks to leaked information from Origin and the trailer, we now can see that we’re officially getting seasons! I don’t know about you, but we’re pretty damn excited about this pack! We’re getting all four seasons, and WEATHER. I’ve been wanting rain in the game for so long, which is kind of funny because thunderstorms make my anxiety go nuts, but in game? BRING IT ON! Except for the electrocution prospects – that really freaks me out!

Watching the trailer itself really got me excited – I love the song they used and the trailer was not only really well done, but it gives you almost an overwhelming amount of information as to what we can expect in the new pack. There’s a lot to see and it’s almost hard to decide what we’re most looking forward to.

Seeing this photo in particular REALLY excites me because apparently we can now create bouquets – something I’ve wanted to do for awhile now. I never saw the point of harvesting the flowers you can grow if you couldn’t put them on display in your house! Also, bees – I guess we could now replicate Sherlock Holmes in Elementary and his beekeeping!

I’m looking forward to seeing how we can expand on the skills of being a gardener/botanist. I’ve always enjoyed having my sims start a garden so I’m curious how much further I will be able to take this interest.

I think I’m personally most excited about having weather in the game – ESPECIALLY WIND!!!!, and also the gardening features. Fall is definitely my favorite season so I’m looking forward to experiencing that in game as well. Missy is excited about bouquet making, the winter fest and Father Winter, and the ability to harvest honey. Also, we’re both pretty excited for the Ice Skating!! We’ve both always been nerds about figure skating so it’s perfect for us. 🙂

The game is available for pre-order now and is being released on June 22nd. It will cost $39.99. We think that after watching the trailer and seeing the info on the game, the cost is a fair price because it seems like we’re getting a TON of new stuff that will really expand on the whole game experience. This isn’t an overpriced $10.00 hamster stuff pack (clearly, I have some opinions on that one), this is a whole new world in a sense. There’s new activities, new items and new environments thanks to the addition of season changes and weather. While we obviously haven’t experienced any proper game play yet, we are thinking this pack is going to be well worth the cost!

We want to know, what are YOUR thoughts?! Does the expansion pack meet your expectations? If not, what did you want to see? What are you most excited about? We’d love to hear your thoughts on today’s announcement, so let’s chat in the comments!

Ticket To Ride – Board Game Review

IMG_2371

Personally, I really enjoy board games. I’ll admit that sometimes its difficult to gather up enough willing participants though. Perhaps it feels too much like a slow and antiquated activity to some. Perhaps that’s part of the appeal to others?

I had purchased Ticket To Ride about a year ago but unfortunately it ended up sitting on the shelf unloved for about that much time. I purchased it for my sister, who is a bit of a geek when it comes to trains. Think Sheldon Cooper with a little less severity. We finally busted it out yesterday, and while I’m aware that its a game with PLENTY of reviews, we decided to share our thoughts on the game as well.

The Cantina Chronicles: Strawbeery Fields Forever

With the last of my undergraduate courses done and now that I’m officially a college graduate, I decided to unwind the best way I know how: by treating myself to a nice cold brew.

When writing for my college’s school newspaper, I would often write the “Brews Under Review” column in our Life & Arts section where we would visit a local brewing company and review their beers. Truth be told I never would have imagined myself doing so when I first joined the paper, but it was honestly one of the coolest experiences to have had the opportunity to do. I truly enjoyed writing for the column and wanted to find a way to carry it over and continue reviewing beers.

In treating myself after working like a dog this semester, I opted for Strawbeery Fields from Three Heads Brewing. Three Heads Brewing, a brewing company brewing out of Rochester, NY describes the beer on their website:

Let me take you down with 160lbs of real strawberry added to this light, easy drinking lager! Nothing to get hung about as the berry essence lives in harmony with your senses until the last gulp. Come take a trip with us to the Strawbeery Fields!

NCIS:LA Season 9 Finale Recap + Review

ncislas9e23

CBS

The finale of season nine of NCIS:LA comes on the heels of a long, exhausting and entirely tumultuous journey for the avant garde naval law enforcement team. The disappearance of Hetty was the major focus of much of the season, and it feels like a stain has been tightening among the team for awhile now. That tension, quickly escalates in this seasons finale.

The finale comes to us in two parts: S9E23 A Line In The Sand, and S9 E24 Ninguna Salida. Part 1 opens with the team involved in a shootout, where Sam takes a shot to the leg, and the rest of the team takes in a suspect. When they interrogate the suspect, a name comes up: Spencer Williams. The man who took Director Shay Mosley’s son Derrick five years ago. The case quickly goes from procedural and “typical” to off the books and illegal as Mosley sees this as the way to get her son back. Her intense focus causes increased tension with the team who at first, is not aware of the full scope of what is going on.

Sunday Seven – May 20th 2018

thesundayseven

The Sunday Seven is a vaguely regular series where we share seven things that are on our radar in some way. They might be articles we enjoyed reading, a new food we’ve become obsessed with, a television show we need to talk about, or a new product we’ve discovered. There’s really no rhyme or reason – just think of it as our casual Sunday chat.

1 – The Office – I have to start this post off with a show I’ve become fully, and utterly obsessed with. I know – I’m WAY late to the party on this one. I honestly can’t explain why I never watched before. I had seen episodes here and there, but had never seen the series all the way though. Let me tell you, I am SO glad that I am finally doing just that. I’m just starting season six as we speak and OMG – this show is so good!! It’s painfully stupid, hilarious and at some points even sweet and heartwarming. I’m honestly surprised at the layers to this show, and just how much I’ve grown to like it. I’m definitely a big fan now. I’m just sorry it took me so long to become one. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
