Premiere Week – What We’re Watching – September 24-30, 2018

The time is finally here! It’s premiere week!! The blog has been a bit quiet (okay, very), as we transitioned from summer break into grad school again, but we’ve been waiting for this time to arrive. With shows returning, it almost feels like we have dropped back into our *true* routines. We thought we’d take a super quick break to give a run down of the shows we intend to watch this week!

This run down is for the week of September 24th, 2018 through September 30th, 2018. New shows are in bold!

The Big Bang Theory (CBS) – Season twelve is unfortunately going to be the last season of TBBT and we’re a bit bummed about it. Sometimes I feel like we’re in a minority because we love the show, but hey – they’ve made it twelve seasons so clearly they’ve got at least a few fans! 😉 We will definitely be tuning in and it feels right to be starting off with such a good classic sitcom.

Young Sheldon (CBS) – I’d admit that when I first heard about Young Sheldon, I really was apprehensive. I just didn’t see it working out. Well I realized pretty early in season one that it DOES work and it’s one of my favorite new arrivals of last year. My favorite part is actually the set design. I think they have done an incredible job with making everything look appropriate for the time! I also enjoyed seeing Billy Gardell and I hope that he returns for season 2!

NCIS (CBS) – I’m not sure how ready I am to envision the show without Abby Sciuto, but I am enjoying her replacement Kasie Hines (played by Diona Reasonover). The show has certainly lost a lot of great characters in recent years, but I’m still committed to seeing how it works out – especially as the finale of last season had Director Vance being kidnapped by terrorists!

FBI (CBS) – This show is a new Dick Wolf creation and it sort of feels weird to say that its not on NBC, but here we are. This is a new show that I’m going to be giving a go – I think it has potential being set in New York and given its creator, but the success of shows like the Law & Order Franchise is hard to replicate and we’ll have to see how it works out. Plus, here’s a question – wouldn’t crossover between FBI and agencies like SVU be inevitable? How will it work out that their cases never intersect since we’re talking about two different networks?

American Housewife (ABC) – We’re now in the third season of American Housewife and I’ve been watching from the beginning. I enjoyed Katy Mixon on Mike & Molly, which is what brought me to watch this show in the first place. Sometimes the show has a tendency to be painfully cheesy but it’s also a good, comforting sitcom. We’ll see where season 3 takes us!

Single Parents (ABC) – This is a new sitcom and if I’m entirely honest, I don’t have the highest of hopes for it. The cast feels a bit improbable and while the premise is more or less relatable, I’m not sure they’re tackling the subject in the best way. That being said, I’m still planning to give this one a go, if anything, because I enjoy Bradley Garrett (when he’s not playing a bad guy on SVU)!

The Big Bang Theory (CBS) – apparently there’s two episodes of TBBT this week, so we’re including it here even though it’s technically not a premiere.

Young Sheldon (CBS) – see above. 🙂

Mom (CBS) – Mom is easily one of my top favorite returning sitcoms. It’s definitely in my top three for favorite current sitcoms. I’m so glad it’s returning and can’t wait to see what Bonnie and Christy (and the rest of the gang) get up to this season!

Law & Order SVU (NBC) – *NEW NIGHT* I’m a bit bummed that SVU has moved to a new night because I enjoyed watching just comedy after the intensity that is Grey’s Anatomy. But it is what it is. Except for this week when both SVU & Greys are doing big two hour premieres. So I’m going to actually have to watch both shows tomorrow once they’ve been posted online because everything conflicts and overlaps with each other. Other than that, I’m super excited for the TWENTIETH season of Law & Order SVU!!

Grey’s Anatomy (ABC) – I’ve been watching Grey’s for years now and I’d likely to say I’m excited about its return, but in all honesty I’m sort of not. I’ll still be watching, but I’m apprehensive. I’m pretty bummed about the loss of Arizona and April and while I know that shows venture in new directions all the time, for me, Grey’s has lost some of its magic. We’ll just have to see if they can bring that back for me!

Saturday September 29th, 2018

Saturday Night Life (NBC) – I’ve watched SNL for years and years and the new season starts this upcoming week. I’ll definitely give it a go, but I’ll be honest – Kayne West for the musical act? No thanks. Not sure what they were thinking there.

Sunday 30 September 2018

NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS) – one of the first posts here on the blog was a review and recap of the season finale of last season of NCIS: LA. It was definitely an intense one, but thanks to social media, I have some ideas on how it will all turn out (I’ll keep them to myself for now!)!

There’s plenty more happening next week as well, and we’ll try to put up a similar post for each week as the premieres roll out. If you want more real-time thoughts though, feel free to follow me on twitter, where I’m ALWAYS rambling about some show!
